C'E' / CI SONO

To describe, for instance, what I have in my shopping cart, I can use C'E' / CI SONO = there is / there are.

For example:

Nel mio carrello = In my cart

c'è una bottiglia di latte = there is a bottle of milk

ci sono 4 uova = there are 4 eggs

c'è del burro = there is some butter

ci sono 6 pomodori = there are 6 tomatoes

c'è un kg di patate = there is 1 kg of potatoes

ci sono 4 pere = there are 4 pears

c'è un kg di mele = there is 1 kg of apples. 

So, the rule says that you have to use C'E' with singular names and CI SONO with plural ones.
