To ask about the nationality of a person, it is necessary to say
- informal way: Di dove sei? = where are you from? / Da dove vieni? = where do you come from?
- Courtesy form: Di dov'è? = where are you from? / Da dove viene? = where do you come from?
To reply, you can use an adjective, applying the rules seen above, or specify the country.
For intance, you can say:
- Sono italiano (masculine, singular), sono italiana (feminine, singular), siamo italiani (masculine, plural), siamo italiane (feminine, plural). / Sono inglese (singular), siamo inglesi (plural).
Americano/a/i/e, argentino/a/i/e, spagnolo/a/i/e, tedesco/a/hi/he, russo//a/i/e, arabo/a/i/e, indiano/a/i/e.
Francese/i, giapponese/i, cinese/i, portoghese/i.
- Vengo dall'Italia/dalla Francia/dalla Germania/dalla Spagna/dall'America. / Sono di Roma/Milano/Bologna.
FA ATTENZIONE!!/PAY ATTENTION!!
With the verb essere (=to be), you say "sono italiano" or "sono di Roma".
With be verb abitare (=to live), you will say "abito in Italia" or "abito a Roma".
Remember to use IN+COUNTRY and A+CITIES.
